I've been hearing all this talk about the new Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange movie on the Beale ladies and didn't know what it was all about. Well, today I saw in the newspaper a 2 page story about the movie and the Beales and remembered that I watched Grey Gardens years ago and was fascinated. I watched as a mother and daughter were totally dependent on each other. I remember staying up really late and watching the documentary on PBS. I think I was flipping thru the channels and stopped because it was quite intriguing. This evening I logged on to youtube and there I relived the documentary. I watched 12 videos of the eccentric Beales. Quick bio, The older Beale (Big Edie) is the aunt of Jackie O making the younger Beale (Little Edie) Jackie O first cousin. They were living in an East Hampton mansion that was so vile it was about to be closed down by the health department.. they had cats everywhere, mice, fleas, raacoons running a mock, no running water, etc. During the documentary, you see these ladies bond, fight and makeup just to do it all over again. They sing, dance and just be themselves. Through out the movie, my focus was on Little Edie and her eccentric style. She was always put together, even when her outfits were questionable, she somehow pulled it off. It is said that she received alot of Jackie O hand-me down. She made use of what she received and whatever cloth was laying around. Being an accessories person, myself, I was fascinated by Little Edie's head scarfs. She ALWAYS had something adorned on her head and it was fastened with a brooch either on the side, on the top, or in the back. Instant style. I see style runs in the Bouvier lines.

I couldn't find alot of images on the web, but I suggest you go to Youtube, view the videos and see for yourself. You'll be impressed.
NOTE: I just watched the trailer for the Barrymore/Lange version...WOW authentic to a T. Watch the documentary videos first then watch the trailer (all on youtube) and you'll see what I mean.....
